Co-founders of the Mexico Solidarity Project, Bruce Hobson and Meizhu Lui will speak on why North American progressives should understand why Mexico is critical to advancing a vision of socialism and multiracial democracy in the United States.
At a time when the “news” media has become entertainment, fake facts abound, investigative journalism withers and the president attacks the media as the enemy, more than ever we need a bold, independent media. Media critic Jeff Cohen will open a discussion on the media situtation today, both indy and corporate.
Cohen is a journalist, media critic, professor, and the founder of Fairness & Accuracy In Reporting (FAIR). He is also the author of numerous books on the media, most recently Cable News Confidential: My Misadventures in Corporate Media. Over his many productive years as a journalist Jeff Cohen has worked for MSNBC as senior producer of Phil Donahue's show (until the invasion of Iraq forced it off the air), a co-host of CNN's Crossfire, as well as a regular panelist on FNC's Fox News Watch. Currently he is associate professor of journalism at Ithaca College, where he holds an endowed chair and is founding director of the Park Center for Independent Media.
