21st Century Climate Challenges

One of the major challenges facing us today is climate disruption. The extremes of climate events are getting more extreme (major storms, drought, floods, polar ice caps melting, unprecedented warming, etc.). The science is clear but the solutions are not. What can we do as individual consumers and as political activists to help meet the challenges? How do we keep fossil fuels in the ground? What to do about the release of methane due to the shrinking ice caps? What alternative sources of energy are most promising? Is a planetary catastrophe avoidable?

San Miguel is located in a semi-arid zone with a shrinking water table that is causing arsenic and other undesirable chemicals to leach into our water supply. Can we recharge our water sources? How can we make more efficient use of water in agriculture?
