Ejido Tolantongo

This community built and operated complex of pools in the state of Hidalgo is considered one of the top co-ops in Mexico given the quality of their operations. Thousands of gallons of hot water pour out of various springs on the mountainside where it is organized into multiple bathing pools. The operation is based in an "ejido" which are land grants dating to the 1910 revolution as a type of land reform. This ejido supports 127 families and jobs are rotated with leaders having term limits. It can sleep 3000 including campers. Guests can also choose charming casitas or a more hotel-like structure. It is an example of economic democracy at work in Mexico.
