Co-founders of the Mexico Solidarity Project, Bruce Hobson and Meizhu Lui will speak on why North American progressives should understand why Mexico is critical to advancing a vision of socialism and multiracial democracy in the United States.
Join us to celebrate the publication the of the Center for Global Justice's latest book, Moving Beyond Capitalism. The Book contains key presentations from a 2014 conference that was held here in San Miguel. The conference brought together over 200 participants from four continents. Discussions centered on alternative structures being developed in the USA, Mexico and around the world that encompass principles and practices of economic democracy along with new ways of relating to each other in light of these new practices. They also dealt with climate disruption, political challenges, building the commons and the construction of socialism in our century. The authors range from activists to academics (sometimes one and the same) who brought to the conference their concrete experiences in struggles for social justice. The presentations in the collection (some by local residents) will give food for thought in these troubled times where so much hate and prejudice color our political spectrum. We need to create a new, positive solidarity coupled with the shaping of our positive and progressive goals and the hope is that this book can make a small contribution to realizing them.
A wine and cheese reception will follow the presentation of the book. Autographed discounted copies are available for purchase.
