Although the United States is a nation of immigrants, for much of its history many immigrant groups have been treated almost as badly as the natives of this continent. Today it is Mexicans and Central Americans who are the Others being given the harsh hand. Carole Lapidus, a clinical social worker who has worked with many immigrant groups in New York City, will discuss myths about undocumented people in the US today. She will speak of the social, economic and political climate that has created fertile ground for the rise of the bigotry, anger and resentment that has fueled the anti -immigrant sentiments prevalent in the US. She will also consider what the ultimate outcome of Trump’s immigration policy is likely to be.

Like unwanted strangers in a strange land, undocumented people must work and hide simultaneously--talk about a precarious lifestyle.  And like so much of the new economies, this never-settled life is exactly what contemporary capitalism desires -- a low cost replaceable workforce.  Why is it important to protect these folks?  How do they feel living in this labyrinth ?  Come and find out how you can support the sanctuary movement.
