We are a week before the inauguration of an unstable megalomaniac, totally unfit to be president. His loyalists control the Congress and the Supreme Court. And his stated agenda could destroy American constitutional democracy. Yet his political opposition hasn’t a clue how to respond.
The issue is not whether the Democrats can recover for the next election, but whether, as the “liberal” wing of the two-party system, they are capable of leading Americans to face the reality of their declining empire.
I will discuss:
- Why Trump’s Democratic opposition is in denial
- How the Republican right grew and unified its base, while the Democratic center-left shrunk and divided theirs.
- Why the working class supported Trump.
- What now must be faced
