Where is Mexico Headed?

Monday, June 1, 2020 - 1:00pm
Laura Carlsen & Hector Ulloa

Laura Carlsen, Director of the Americas Program, a program of the Center for Economic and Policy Research speaks on  "Social Change in Times of Pandemic:  What's Changed, What Hasn't and the Paths Forward"   With a huge part of the world's population in quarantine, we know our lives have changed. But what are the longer term implications of the pandemic and states' responses, especially Mexico's? How does the pandemic affect the goals of the Fourth Transformation?  We will look at these questions and the opportunities that open up as we envision new forms of solidarity, people's economy and gender justice in societies that have to brace for permanent disruptions.

Hector Ulloa speaks on "The New Normality:  Are People Ready For It?" People are expecting that things will go back to normal as soon as the quarantine is over.  However, a lingering risk of infection and death, together with a lack of awareness of the real dimension of the problem, might prove otherwise."
