Cliff DuRand
Center for Global Justice co-founder Dr. Cliff Durand reflects upon the colossal failure of the U.S. response to the Covid-19 pandemic, a failure due not solely to poor leadership but also shortcomings in the U.S. medical and public health system. While Cuba is much poorer than the United States and other developed nations, Cuba's robust public health system has successfully managed the pandemic under a punishing economic blockade imposed by the U.S. Despite these burdens, Cuba has contained the virus with one of the lowest death rates anywhere. A former Professor of Philosophy at Morgan State University, Durand has traveled annually to Cuba for 30 years, leading hundreds of people on educational trips.
